• AMQG & Cut Once Quilts - A Quilty Pleasure VIP Experience

  Cut Once Quilts, a 2025 AMQG sponsor, has invited our members to the first meeting of their Quilty Pleasures VIP Club.  Ticket sales from this event will benefit the Austin Modern Quilt Guild.  Each participant will customize one of their popular Rulers of Affirmation with your very own message, mantra, nickname or curse; outside of a 35-character limit, the world is your oyster!

  Cut Once Quilts will also be selling quilt patterns, templates and more at the event.  This is an open-house style event, but arrive on the early side for a chance to snag some of their Quilty Pleasure Sample Template at a discounted rate!  Light snacks, good company and sparkling beverages will be provided.

  She will present "Coloring Inside the Lines" to share her quilting journey and creative process with us.  She will have 10-12 quilts to show and discuss.  There will be plenty of time for Q&A and a chance to look up close at her quilts.

  Susan Braverman of Wild Poppy Quilts will be sharing her Circle Secrets with the Austin Modern Quilt Guild!

  Be fearless with curvy alternate gridwork!  Students will explore how to create dynamic, vibrant designs that use quarter, half and whole circles.  Students will work on a 24" x 24" project to apply these strategies.  Susan will share her best tips and tricks for circular piecing, rectangular fitting components and construction sequencing.  Take home what you learn to unleash your imagination and go off the grid.  Curved templates and design maps will be provided.

  Students should bring the following supplies:

  • sewing machine
  • usual sewing supplies: seam ripper, pins, small fabric scissors, thread, etc.
  • colored pencils
  • mechanical pencil with eraser
  • small paper scissors
  • scotch tape
  • 28mm rotary cutter
  • personal size cutting mat
  • 8.5" square quilting ruler
  • washable school glue stick
  • solid fabrics: (8) fat quarters in a variety of colors you like.  Include some lighter and darker colors plus at least (1) neutral to provide plenty of design options.

  Fall Out-of-Town Quilting Retreat

  Grab an AMQG buddy or two and plan to spend the weekend quilting at Pinwheel Place Retreat Center in Lockhart, TX.  This event will max out at (9) people.  Registration will open on August 23rd.

  The house has (3) bedrooms with (9) twin beds in total.  Linens are provided.  You should bring your own pillow.  

  There are (3) bathrooms with towels, hairdryers, soap, shampoo, and conditioner.  There is a large kitchen with basic dishes and cooking supplies.

  

  Pinwheel Place Retreat Center does not serve meals, but being in Lockhart, TX, the BBQ Capital of Texas, you can take advantage of some good BBQ while your in town.  Other restaurants are available in town as well, or plan meals with your fellow retreaters.  A full kitchen and refrigerator is available at Pinwheel.

  The sewing room is 1200 sq. ft. and is separated from the house by a covered breezeway.  It has a small fridge and a half bathroom.

  Each person gets (3) 4 ft. tables to use and there are (10) 4'x8' design walls.  There are three ironing boards and three cutting tables.
