Connecting Threads at Dougherty Arts Center Austin Modern Quilt Guild’s quilt exhibit Connecting Threads at Dougherty Art Center is officially open! We encourage everyone to visit the exhibit and experience the 29 beautiful quilts on display, all quilts in the exhibit were created by AMQG members. Each piece has its own story, texture, and artistry, seeing them all on display together is magical! Join us for the upcoming Reception and Artist Talk to meet the quilt artists, hear the stories behind the stitches, and celebrate Austin’s vibrant quilting community. We encourage all the makers of quilts on display to attend these events if you’re able. Opening Reception: Wednesday, December 3, 7-9pm The exhibit and both events are free to attend and will be on display November 22 - January 10, 2026. Dougherty Arts Center: Julia C. Butridge Gallery, 1110 Barton Springs Road, Austin TX Dougherty's Hours: “Connecting Threads”, where each quilt tells a unique story of interconnectedness. From traditional motifs to bold contemporary designs, witness the ways in which threads weave together narratives, cultures and communities. The characteristics of a modern quilt often include, but are not limited to the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, maximalism, expansive negative space and alternate grid work. |
