It’s time!  Kristen, one of three AMQG Service Chairs, will be hosting our first Service Kitting Party on Friday, December 26th from 10am to 2pm at the Guild Studio.  It’s our Boxing Day kick-off event!

Traditionally, Boxing Day is a holiday associated with charitable giving.  In honor of Boxing Day, please bring your leftover holiday treats to share, and come prepared to cut and kit quilt blocks for collaborative community outreach quilts.  Kitting party attendees will select one of the patterns provided, pull fabrics of their choosing from our donated fabrics, and then cut away!  We’ve reserved our very favorite fabrics for the occasion.  Tula, Kaffe, Ruby Star, Tilda, and Liberty, Oh My…!  Each kit will contain components for 4-5 quilt blocks, detailed sewing instructions, and will be distributed among members at meetings.  Completed blocks will be returned, compiled and composed into service quilt tops for one of our community partner organizations.

Patterns, fabric and project bags will be provided.  We will have some cutting and ironing stations, but please feel free to bring an extra sharp rotary cutter and small cutting mat for extra flexibility.

Due to space limitations, we ask that you sign up on the website if you intend to attend, and if your plans change, please free up your spot via the member portal so that we can automatically notify someone on the waitlist.  And so Kristen knows how many finger sandwiches and sugar cookies to whip up?!

Additional Kitting Party dates to save include but may not be limited to: Sunday February 1st, Sunday March 8th, and Saturday April 11th.

The Austin Modern Quilt Guild Studio is located at Cherrywood Center, 1605 E. 38 1/2 St. Austin, TX 78722.  There’s plenty of parking down the driveway and around the back.  Have questions?  Email Kristen at service@austinmodernquiltguild.com.

See Through the Layers: A Shadow Appliqué Workshop

Beginner level - All levels welcome

Description: What is shadow appliqué, and how might it expand your quilting practice? These are the questions we’ll explore together in this interactive workshop. Students will experiment with sheer fabrics, bold shapes, and layered compositions to discover how transparency can both reveal and conceal—adding depth, contrast, and intrigue to their work.

We’ll create three small compositions (approximately 10" x 10") while learning methods for design, layering, and construction. I’ll share tips for fabric selection, construction, and balancing contrast to achieve dynamic, visually layered results. Take what you learn to bring joy, softness, and surprise into your future quilts.

Supply list for workshop can be found here.
