Connecting Threads at Dougherty Arts Center

Austin Modern Quilt Guild presented a quilt exhibit Connecting Threads at Dougherty Art Center from November 2025 - January 2026.  There were 29 quilts made by AMQG members on display.

The theme “Connecting Threads” evoked feelings of cozy sweaters, which reminded me of when Mr. Rogers would wear the bright, intricate cardigans his mom made fo
“Connecting Threads”, where each quilt tells a unique story of interconnectedness. From traditional motifs to bold contemporary designs, witness the ways in which threads weave together narratives, cultures and communities. The characteristics of a modern quilt often include, but are not limited to the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, maximalism, expansive negative space and alternate grid work.
