"DESIGN PROCESS"

From the initial spark to the finished quilt. Join Tara for a talk all about the process of design. She’ll share ways she takes an idea and develops it, and how the role of scale and color are integral to her process, what she does when things hit a wall and ways to resolve it, and how she's gotten out of creative ruts and most recently found the patience to see one through rather than fight it.

This is a 1 hour lecture with Q & A via Zoom. Registration is for non guild members only.

If you are a member of the Austin Modern Quilt Guild, you do not need to register. If you are not a member this is a great opportunity to get a peek into one of our meetings while getting a chance to hear from one of the most influential quilters in modern quilting!

We will be hosting this at our regular monthly meeting in-person at the Cherrywood center, and we'll have the Zoom lecture projected in the room with the ability to interact as a group. If you cannot make it to the in-person meeting, no worries! You will be emailed a link to the Zoom meeting to attend that way.

About the Artist: Tara Faughnan

The Austin Modern Quilt Guild is excited to welcome Tara Faughnan, a celebrated modern quilt artist, teacher, and fabric designer known for her vibrant color palettes, bold geometric designs, and fresh approach to quilting. Tara’s work is instantly recognizable for its playful use of color, blending modern design with traditional quilting techniques in a way that feels both artistic and approachable.

As an experienced teacher and creative thinker, Tara has inspired quilters around the world to explore color more confidently and think differently about design. Only One Quilt Workshop (Saturday, June 13, 2026)

Learn how to make the Only One Quilt by Orange Dot studios. At the first session on May 23 we will learn how to cut the fabric for the blocks. Then you take home the blocks to assemble.
